The Western Skyline with Karen McDonnell 27th May 2017

On the Western Skyline today we’re indulging in some music from the UK, or that namechecks places in London. A bit of a pre-election/Brexit playlist, so!!
There’s news of a new art exhibition, and some heritage info. And this week’s poem is MCMXIV by Philip Larkin – a poignant invocation of England on the cusp of WWI, written on the 50th anniversary on the beginning of that war.
I hope you like it. If you have any poems you’d like to hear, or other suggestions for the show, email using The Western Skyline in the subject line.

The Western Skyline with Karen McDonnell 13th May 2017

This week on The Western Skyline the music is from the movies – or ‘de filums’ as we once called them!
My guest is local artist Christopher Banahan, whose exhibition, Galway 4040/Remains of Us, continues at Kennys’ Gallery in Galway. Chris gives an insight into the development of the work, and spills the beans about painting subjects such as actor Kate O’Toole, writers Nuala Ni Chochuir & Lisa McInerney, and President Michael D. Higgins.
A new feature on The Western Skyline is ‘My Favourite (Arts) Things’. In this programme, Chris tells us about his favourite painting, book, and film. The clue is, ‘What Chris does for a living’!
SO – some great music & chat, and the usual Arts round-up.
First broadcast Live on Kinvara FM 13 May 2017
